Q:Thanks for the information we have checked the cables and jumper positions as per your email

and we still do not have any luck with it.

Two questions for you.

1) What about the 120 Ohm resistors do we need them. Remember the RS422/485 card we have

had no termination built in at that time.

2) Is there anyway we can set up a loopback between two ports of the 4 port card to test the card

is working OK in the same mode as we need for the HANNA INSTRUMENTS device. Please

advise the best way to do this URGENTLY!!

Q:I have a customer who is having some problems with your multi-port serial cards. He is running Linux and cannot get more than 32 serial ports to work. Is this a limitation with your cards or with Linux? Is there any way around this? He needs to run 40 ports.

Q:We have tried to implement a solution for multiple fax modems using Decision's PCI multi-port serial card. Their DELL system was installed with Red Hat Linux 7.1 and the kernel was downgraded to the kernel of Red Hat 7.0 which is version 2.2.16-2. It had worked previously but after installing a new 3com network card, the server will hang unless installing the pci_serial.o module at runlevel 1. If /etc/rc.local has "insmod -f /lib/modules/misc/pci_serial.o" it will hang

and logs:3c501.o: init_module: Input/output error. Can you please tell me if there's a solution for this problem? Thank you very much.

A:Frpm your problem, it should have conflict between 3Com and PCCOM. Pleasse check your PC it has any conflict of IRQ or I/O. If has conflicts, please change to plug in another PCI Slot and try it again.

Q:So Your ansver is that Your card can not be configured as I has been asking. A PCI card uses only 1 irq thats not the fact with a ISA card, thats the reason for choosing ISA I ordered a card where I could configure the ports with jumpers. The seller put Your card in the computer, I'm very sorry for hearing that Your card cant be configured as I want. There is an other computer with an other card installed which works exactly as I want. The interesting fact is that I can configure Your card exactly as I want under Windows, that's now not enough for Me because the software work under Dos. I've now to battle with My deliver and make them to take back Your card which didn't work as I ordered.

A:We have support the project -- PCCOM ISA RS232 4Port card. But we don't suggest use the function is port and IRQ are one-by-one, it will use all of sources on your PC. And it maybe make other conflicts with other devices. If you need port and IRQ are one-by-one, please use the PCCOM ISA 4Port card. Q:I have a PCI RS-232 4 port decision 2000 card and I am running windows XP. I was told that the Win2000 drivers will work, but they don't. The pc will not boot and when it does it is extremely slow until the card is removed. I have checked on all the sites for an XP driver but cannot find any. Are there any XP drivers available? If so, could you mail them to me or give me a link because we would like to use the cards on the + - 600 fuel sites we have but need the XP drivers urgently as we are installing the first one this week.

Q:During our initial testing of the 4 ports card , we found out that the card work just fine.

We test using the diagnostic and serial test and using VB to send and receive.... it is ok..

But, In the hyperterminal, it does not appear in the Direct to com option. I mean the com 3,4,5,6 not appearing.

A:If you use HyperTerminal on WIN98, you can't select other COM port of over "COM4" because that is default setting of WIN98. You can't change anyone. If you use HyperTerminal on WIN2000/XP, you can select other COM port over "COM4" because WIN2000/XP can auto detection all of COM port on the machine.

Q:Now I am developing the application about Teal-Time PC data acquistion. I used PCCOM 4 Ports RS-485 card and I develop by VB6 (PCCOM Professional.OCX), but I have some problem I can not detect the RTS Signal in my RS-485 network before my PC send data. The collision of RTS and data loss will occur. Please tell me how detect RTS signal in my RS-485 network and I want to know the maximum baud rate in High Speed Mode of this Card, which the system can stable.

He can not connect with the RS-485 equipment. Cable is oke. He test the cable also with a RS-232<> Rs-485 convertor. What is the problem.

Q：I have some problems with the PCIIND (I'm trying for the request I receive this morning). Is not the card, but the Linux driver (module). It was compiled for the 2.2.* kernel, but the actual kernels are 2.4.* and is not working. Please send me (or post in the smatlab.com site) the actualized driver for this card because some of the parts in the project I trying to sell depends on a perl script (a very long one) calling the functions in this module.

In any case, I can recompile the source code for the right kernel if you doesn´t have an actualized Linux box in your office.

Q：I am in Mexico making some demostrations of our products with our new distributor here. I have been trying to install the PCI DUal card in one new WINDOWS XP computer but I am not able to make the card to appear properly without error in the System/Device Manager. I have used the last Windows 2000 driver and it seem to be installed properly but I got the following error. Please find attached two images for reference: It says ( in Spanish) "This device can not find enought free resources to use" I have reinstall a clean WINDOWS again, change the PCI slot, disable the other normal COM ports but I can not make it run. In Spian in the office we have the card properly installed in Windows XP. Please, let me know if you can help as soon as possible.

Q：I am trying to configure an 8 Port PCI PCCOMM RS232 Adapter. I want't to use it for serial printing, Modem Connection and Serial Terminal (ANSI) Emulation Speed 9600 Bps. Operating System in use is SCO OPENSERVER Version 5.06. Driver in use is the latest from your Internet Site. Protocol XON/XOFF The card does give me a login, but characters are dropped. The JP3/JP4 must short PIN 1 and PIN2 to suit the chip type on the card. It cannot short PIN2 and PIN3.

The Portno field is used to specify number of ports in this adapter. The Port field is defined as PCCOM V2.0.

If more than one PCCOM board is installed, Please repeat directive /P of the step 1.

Q：I have a question about installing the driver. This instruction seems to be written based on Red Hat Linux. It says on 3.2 command “#mark config” on the directory of /usr/src/linux.

That I have serial.c on /lib/modules/2.4.2-2/kernel/driver/char and serial.h on /usr/include/asm. Can you tell me which directory should he command “#mark config”?

Q：Regarding to APCIRS232 board , now we have question. PCI-bus by PCI -bus bridge and install APCI board on extended bus. Question is below.

Does APCI board work on extended bus?

If it works, is it possible to control PCI cash signal?

Q：I have a question for the PCCOM 2 port card, I need information which location must be JP-3/4 to use in 232 mode?

A：The JP1 and JP2 are used to select high-speed mode or normal speed mode; the clock is 7.3728MHZ for high speed mode and 1.8432MHZ for normal speed mode. For high speed mode, the baud rate speed up to 460K.

Q：I to test the 8 port card on the Linux system. I already tested the printing process for 4 pieces of 8 port card at the same Linux O/S! But I still have some problems; I need your side’s help. I want to check the status of the tty port, I want to know the printer is on or off after connected to the 8 port card, so does u have any suggestion or solution to check this?

A：If you want to check the status of same specific tty port, you can use the utility “set serial-a”.

If you want to know the printer status, you should reference the user manual of the printer since the status reported from “set serial” is relevant to the serial port only.

Q：We are currently using version 2.4.9 of the Linux kernel (Red Hat 7.2) and we have compiled it with your updated serial.c and serial.h files. Everything works fine.

What we would prefer, however, if at all possible, is that the driver is available as a loadable module (as it was for version 6 of Red Hat) rather than having to re-compile the kernel each time we change or install a new machine.

A：We had tried to make the revised driver as a loadable module. However, it is failed since most of serial port drivers have to be with a software interrupt routine and currently, the handle for a software interrupt routine is just statically allocated in the Linux kernel. So that it is impossible to dynamically load on extra serial-port driver whose software interrupt routine is not coded in the kernel in advance.

Q：Regarding PC COM 8 under DOS, we used to set PC COM 4 under MS DOS in the post, there is no problem. MS DOS found card but “address not found” How to write *.opt to specify address?

This is the 8 PCI card under DOS installing step.

STEP 1: You must rustle up the reboot-disk and copy “pci.opt” and “config.sys” in the disk from our drivers.
